The punchline?
Turns out they’re all me.
I’ve avoided writing about this, spending the last 3 days twiddling my thumbs, trying to get out of writing this…
Not because I wasn’t excited, but because I didn’t want it to come across as, “Look at me.”
If I’m honest, I’ve never been particularly comfortable being the centre of attention. I’d much rather write about someone else’s story, ask the questions, or sit quietly behind a keyboard.
But tomorrow morning (Tuesday 28 July) at 8:30am, the tables turn.
I’ll be joining Jesse Archer on Lake FM for what I’m told will be a relaxed chat about Lunch Club Letters.
Yes… the radio.
You know… that old dusty machine tucked away in the back of a cupboard or the garage that somehow receives radio waves and magically turns them into sound. Apparently people still listen to them!
Which is slightly ironic…
Normally, I’m the one asking the questions.
Whether it’s local history, a community project, or trying to understand why something happened, I’m usually sitting on the other side of the notebook.
Tomorrow, Jesse gets to ask the questions.
The only catch?
It’s live.
No editing.
No deleting.
No, “Can we pretend I didn’t just say that?”
Just me, Jesse, a microphone, and hopefully a brain that remembers where it left its train of thought.
The funny thing is, I can usually write much better than I can speak. Writing gives me time to untangle the spaghetti in my head. Live radio expects the spaghetti to already be organised.
If you’d like to read Lunch Club Letters before the interview, there are still copies waiting to be discovered at:
– Taupō Hobby Shop
– The Steaming Bean
– Shawn’s Quality Print
– Whitcoulls Taupo
…along with a handful of other places around town.
So yes, Margaret… you finally get to see me in the public arena.
I probably don’t give myself enough credit sometimes. Growing up, I was never really the person people noticed. Yet here I am, somehow talking about a little community journal on the radio.
Life has a funny way of surprising you.
If you’re awake tomorrow morning, I’d love for you to tune in.
Wish me luck… I have a feeling Jesse will make it an easy chat, but I still can’t promise my spaghetti brain won’t decide to go wandering halfway through a sentence.
Finally, to everyone who thought I was AI… a possum in a trench coat… or perhaps two llamas operating a keyboard…
Sorry to disappoint you.
I am, in fact, a real person.
You can confirm this by tuning in to Lake FM at 8:30am tomorrow, 89.6 Fm.
